someone once said “there’s nothing new under the sun.”
when we consider how long the earth spun without us (us referring, of course, to our wondrous and wonderful human “race” [really, what's the hurry?]), if consideration of such a period of time is even possible, in relation to our understanding/relationship with time and the limited time we have during one “average” contemporary lifetime, it’s difficult not to believe.
when we take into account the multitudes of horrible and wonderful things we have done, collectively; mind-boggling inspirations such as rocket ships, micro chips, and Q-tips, harrowing abominations such as a-bombs, pogroms and apartheid/slavery, it appears that we’ve pretty much covered the gamut of good and bad by now…
so i, educated, interested in politics and governance, TUNE out of the entire process know as the presidential campaign. as with my post a couple weeks ago about the surrogacy issue, the whole thing just pisses me off and if i allowed myself adequate time to really think about it would/should thrust me into a fairly serious depression.
i find myself often “conceptually” liking something so much more than the reality of a particular situation, and thus i consider the candidacy of Obama.
there’s no way someone can make it to the point where they are the leading candidate for one of our two party’s nominations without being, to no small degree AT ALL, a sellout. it’s not a knock, it’s simply a fact. McCain and Clinton have been in the trenches for so much longer that one can’t believe either of them to have the slightest inclination toward really changing the way things are being done, but i fear the same will be realized if/when the youngster finally makes his mark.
so blahblahblah, what are you trying to say, spit it out man!
i reckon my hope is that he’s not. that the general population isn’t as sick and tired of the garbage spewed by the pundits and the pols, not so exhausted by the process -that they will actually create a wave of reality that finds a way to push this greatest of civilizations away from more abominations and toward more of the inspirations that truly should define our beingness. that everything that had to be promised – the bad along with the good, will not impair this man’s ability to actually head us in the proper, forward looking direction that so many of us clearly are desperate to see….
and so, as we “race” on, with our computers doubling in speed, our lifespans increasing, our newsdelivery flying at us with no respite whatsoever – here’s a good thought or two that the great ship that was launched a couple hundred years ago will somehow, miraculously, and i do believe it will take a near miracle, get righted and begin once again pointing the way to a peaceful and productive example of the best humanity can offer
